Experience:

Apurba holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Cambridge, where he was a St Edmund’s Duke of Edinburgh Scholar. He is admitted to practice law in Nepal and has argued before the Supreme Court of Nepal and the subordinate courts and tribunals in the area of constitutional law, public interest litigation, criminal law and corporate law. Additionally, he also offers legal advice on corporate legal issues and international trade law.

Apurba has clerked for a Supreme Court judge and has advised the government and international organizations on issues relating to international sales law, the WTO rules, competition law, diplomatic immunities law, copyright law, food security law etc. He has also been invited to train government officials and businesses on the issues of competition law, intellectual property rights and judicial administration. Apurba was a member of the group that drafted the government of Nepal’s competition law guidelines. Presently he serves as a member of Research and Decision Implementation Study Committee of the Nepal Bar Association. At the NBA he has also served as a member of the expert committee on Public and Private International Law of the Nepal Bar Association.

In 2011, Apurba assisted the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions in the research and drafting of a report submitted to the 17th Session of the Human Rights Council.

Currently, he offers lectures in international trade law, international law and legal philosophy in undergraduate and graduate programs at Chakrabarti Habi Education Academy College of Law. At the college he also serves as the Research Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. Additionally, he is an adjunct faculty at the Faculty of Law, Tribhuwan University. In 2013, Apurba visited McGill University as a McGill Echenberg Fellow at the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.

Apurba has been conferred the 2010 Bar Council Award and is eligible to receive the Presidential medal (Category C) for academic excellence.
