Overview:

Champion, Giles & Hemric, PA has the experience and ability to help you resolve your personal injury, DWI/DUI defense, and criminal defense legal problems. We have been representing individuals in the Burlington, North Carolina, area for over half a century.

We were established in 1948 by H. Clay Hemric. Prior to starting the firm, Mr. Hemric served as a claims adjuster for eight years with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. This experience allowed him to understand what motivated claims adjusters for insurance companies. Over the next 50 years, he trained members of the law firm in his techniques of obtaining the most satisfactory settlements for personal injury claims without undue need for lawsuits. Despite his excellent ability at reaching a settlement, Mr. Hemric was considered one of the best trial lawyers in Alamance County and was one of the founders of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers in the early 1960s. Mr. Hemric practiced law for nearly 60 years before passing away on February 9, 1997. He is still recalled fondly by hundreds of clients, friends, and acquaintances and we are proud to carry on his legacy.

Since 1973, our firm has been known by several names. In 1973, the firm name was Hemric & Hemric, P.A. and was later changed to Hemric, Hemric & Elder until approximately 1986. At that time, the firm became Hemric, Hemric & Hemric, P.A. consisting of H. Clay Hemric, H. Clay Hemric, Jr., and Nancy G. Hemric (now retired). Ricky W. Champion joined the law firm on January 1, 1996, after serving as Chief Assistant District Attorney in Alamance County for many years, where he specialized in prosecuting sex crimes.

Our firm has over 50 years of legal experience in personal injury matters and most of our attorneys were taught and mentored by H. Clay Hemric for many years. When it comes to personal injury, the philosophy of the firm is to try to obtain the most satisfactory settlement for the client without the necessity of litigation. If litigation is necessary, our firm has begun hundreds of personal injury and wrongful death cases and is prepared to do so on your behalf.

We are fortunate to retain the only two Board Certified Specialists in Federal and State Criminal Law in Alamance County, North Carolina, on our staff. There are presently fewer than 50 Board Certified Specialists in Criminal Law in the entire state of North Carolina among 8,000 active lawyers.
