The consequences of a criminal conviction may follow you for the rest of your life. If you are facing charges in Michigan, having an experienced attorney on your side may make all the difference in your case. My staff and I understand how challenging and stressful dealing with a criminal prosecution may be. We are committed to protecting your rights and freedoms at every step of the way, tailoring our services to each client’s individual situation.

For over 20 years as a criminal defense lawyer, I have represented Detroit residents and others who are facing charges of misdemeanors and felonies at both the state and federal levels. Some of the cases that I have handled include drug crimes, violent crimes, assault, homicide, fraud, sex crimes, weapons violations, traffic offenses, drunk driving, cyber crimes, and juvenile crimes.

Under Michigan law, a misdemeanor is a crime punishable by up to one year in county jail. A felony, which is more serious, is a crime punishable by one year or more in a state prison or penitentiary. Crimes may be prosecuted in the Michigan court system of District Courts and Circuit Courts or in Federal Court.

At a misdemeanor arraignment, the defendant will be given an opportunity to enter a plea to the charge. The options include pleading guilty, pleading not guilty, or pleading no contest. A no-contest plea is similar to a guilty plea except that it does not technically constitute an admission of committing the crime.
