MAYOUE, John C. John C. Mayoue, 62, died August 2, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. John was born March 27, 1954, and was a long time resident of Cobb County. He came from rural roots and attended Transylvania University, from which he graduated with a double major in English and History. He graduated from Emory Law in 1979. He was the founding partner of Mayoue Gray Eittreim, P.C. During his successful career he routinely was named a Top 10 Attorney in the state. He was a Super Lawyer. He was listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1993. In 2012 he was listed as Best Lawyer’s in America Lawyer of the Year. For the past twenty-three years he proudly chaired the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia’s Convocation on Professionalism. Throughout his career he was often called upon as an advocate for the celebrity scene. He proudly represented Jane Fonda in her divorce from Ted Turner. He worked with the late Johnny Cochran on the Baby Gregory Bryant-Bruce case, a child with a rare liver disorder. He became a local celebrity among celebrities representing Michael Jordan, Usher Raymond, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Chris Rock, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Clifford “TI” Harris, Nasir “Nas” Jones, David Justice, Tawanna Iverson, Janice Holyfield and Marianne Gingrich in her divorce from former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich. John was the author of five books on family law as well as numerous nationally published articles on diverse topics in family law. John was a passionate supporter of numerous charitable causes, including Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with cancer, the International Community School for refugee children, Compassion International, World Vision, the Willard F. DeWitt scholarship at Emory, designed to benefit and attract law students with disabilities, and most recently he was named inaugural Chair for Usher’s New Look League of Men, an initiative partnering prominent business men to mentor and provide positive examples to our next generation of young men. He was President of the Emory Law Alumni Association. He was a proud member of Our Lady of Lourdes, Atlanta’s oldest African American Catholic church, for over twenty-five years. John is predeceased by his father Vincent Mayoue and his brothers Vincent and Mark. He is survived by his mother Mary Mayoue of Avon, New York, his sister Ellen Baker of Charlottesville, Virginia, his brother George Mayoue of Honeoye Falls, New York, his wife Marcia of Atlanta, his two step-children Meagan and Ben Murray, and his beloved friend Jack. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with a family visitation and luncheon to follow at his beloved church, Our Lady of Lourdes, 25 Boulevard NE, Atlanta, GA 30312, (404) 522-6776.
