A note on staying safe: the Bar Council of India's own chairman has publicly estimated that a significant share of people practicing as advocates in India may be doing so on fabricated law degrees or fraudulent enrollment certificates. Always verify an advocate directly through the Bar Council of India's own Advocate Search (or your state Bar Council's own tool) rather than relying solely on a directory listing or the advocate's own claims.
Separately, in February 2025 the Bar Council of India publicly warned against a fake notice, falsely attributed to the Council, claiming to set a "mandatory minimum fee structure" for advocates - a reminder to verify any notice claiming Bar Council authority directly on barcouncilofindia.org before acting on it.
