A note on staying safe: a well-documented "fake China law firm" scam targets businesses and individuals abroad - victims pay for trademark registration, contract drafting, or company formation work to a "law firm" or "lawyer" that turns out not to exist at all, sometimes using a real lawyer's stolen name and photo. Always verify a lawyer or firm directly through the National Lawyers' Integrity Information Platform above before sending any payment.
Separately, the FBI and other agencies have warned of phone scams where callers impersonate Chinese law enforcement (such as the Ministry of Public Security) to pressure victims - a real government agency will never ask for payment or sensitive information over an unsolicited call.
