Regulators of the Australian Legal Profession (by state/territory) Australia has no single national verification tool for every state - this official government directory links to the real regulator for Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT, and the Northern Territory too.
Law Council of Australia The profession's national peak body, representing the state and territory law societies and bar associations - a good starting point, though it isn't itself a regulator.

National Legal Aid — Find Legal Help Directs you to the independent Legal Aid Commission in your own state or territory, which can provide free legal information, advice, or representation depending on your circumstances.

A note on staying safe: the Law Society of NSW has publicly warned about scammers building fake law firm websites that are near-identical copies of real, registered firms - same branding, staff photos, and text, with a website address differing from the real firm's by only a character or two. Always verify a lawyer directly through their state or territory regulator's own register before paying anything.

Real red flags reported by Australian law societies: a "lawyer" who refuses a video call or won't provide identification, or who asks for payment before ever meeting you or providing a written costs agreement.
