Kenneth A. Smith
Partner
Kenneth A. (Ken) Smith was born in Troup County, Georgia. He grew up in a working class family with his father being a policeman and his mother a secretary. He worked his way through both college and law school. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from LaGrange College in June of 1980. Then he attended the University of Georgia Law School graduating in March of 1983. He immediately became a member of the State Bar of Georgia. Shortly thereafter, he began practicing law in house with Southwire Company in Carrollton, Georgia. At Southwire Company he practiced both corporate and workers’ compensation defense law. In 1996, he left the Southwire legal department and was a co-founder of the law firm of Smith, Wallis & Scott, LLP, practicing in Carrollton, Georgia. Since its foundation the firm has represented thousands of injured Georgians. Ken only practices in the area of workers’ compensation, only representing injured workers. He has always been a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia Workers’ Compensation Claimant’s Law Section.
James W. Wallis, Jr.
Of Counsel
Jim, as he is known by his family and colleagues, was born in Carrollton, Georgia, where he has resided most of his life. He attended West Georgia College where he was conferred the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He then served in the Research and Development Department of a local wire manufacturing company as a Research Metallurgist until 1984 when he entered law school in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1987, The Board of Trustees of Woodrow Wilson College of Law conferred upon him the degree of Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude.
Though licensed to practice in: the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit; the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia; the United States Patent and Trademark Office; the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals; and the Superior and State Courts of the State of Georgia, Jim’s practice is presently limited to Guardianship, Conservatorship and estate issues in the Superior and Probate Courts.
He served Carroll County, Georgia, as the County Administrator and the County Guardian for a number of years; and, since 2004, Jim has also served as an Acting Probate Judge in the Probate Court of Carroll County, Georgia.
Christopher B. Scott
Partner
A native of Carrollton, Georgia, Chris graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in 1993 and returned to his hometown to practice law. Chris’ areas of expertise include Social Security Disability, Workers’ Compensation, and civil litigation in personal injury, employment discrimination, and medical malpractice. He has represented hundreds of Social Security Disability clients at hearings in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. He has tried Workers’ Compensation claims throughout the State of Georgia.
Chris is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Alabama, and has represented clients in Georgia’s Superior and State Courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Georgia. He also has represented clients in U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Chris has represented clients in Circuit and District Courts in the State of Alabama, as well as the Supreme Court of Alabama.
Today Chris is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyer’s Association, the American Bar Association, and is a Sustaining Member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR).
Luis Raul Scott Jr.

Luis is a native of Naguabo, Puerto Rico and came to the Atlanta area to play baseball for the University of West Georgia. Luis graduated from the University of West Georgia with a B.B.A. in Accounting from an accredited AACSB school in 2005. Luis has worked in the legal field since 2001 when he worked for the Chief Magistrate Court Judge of Clayton County as an intern and interpreter. He has worked in several fields of the law including criminal defense, personal injury, workers compensation, immigration, domestic and business law. In addition, he has interpreted in civil court, mediations and criminal hearings throughout his more than 10 years in the legal field. Luis began working for Smith, Wallis and Scott, LLP in 2004 as a bilingual interpreter. After a short period interpreting, he became alegal assistant to partner, Kenneth A. Smith. During his time at Smith, Wallis & Scott, LLP, Luis worked in several capacities such as client liaison, client relations, case management, marketing and advertising. Luis is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and a graduate of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. His primary focus is Workers Compensation, Personal Injury and Immigration. Luis is married and has one son.
Joseph W. Brown
Senior Associate
Joseph is a Troup County native who joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2010. He received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 2007. He then attended Atlanta’s John Marshall Law school, graduating in May, 2010. While in law school, Joseph served as a summer clerk for the firm, gaining valuable experience while being introduced to the demand of the legal field and the challenges of the courtroom. Since joining the firm, Joseph’s practice has focused on Immigration Law, Workers’ Compensation, and Social Security Disability. Joseph is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Workers’ Compensation Claimants Law Section, the Georgia Trial Lawyer’s Association, and the American Bar Association.
Kevin Harris
Associate
Kevin Harris, a native Georgian, received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Georgia State University, MBA from Kennesaw State University, and Juris Doctorate from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. He practices in the areas of Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury (Auto Accidents), and Estate and Legacy Planning, doing Wills, Advanced Directives for Healthcare, and Powers of Attorney. He enjoys spending time with his family, attending church, and spending time in the North Georgia Mountains.
