Karthik completed his five years BAL, LL.B. degree from University of Mysore, JSS Law College with university ranks for BAL and LL.B. degrees. He then practised in the Madras High Court on the civil and writ jurisdictions and also regularly appeared on behalf of Ministry of Finance, Railways and Corporate Affairs, Government of India for indirect tax, arbitral proceedings and corporate matters. He then worked with Big Four accounting firms at their Chennai offices in their indirect tax, corporate tax and international tax teams. Thereafter, he did his LL.M. in International Tax from New York University School of Law, New York. He then worked with a leading tax law firm as a senior member of the international tax team in its Mumbai and Bangalore offices. Now, he has set up his independent law practice in Bangalore and primarily specializes in tax and corporate laws.
Karthik has a perfect blend of litigation and advisory experiences. He has appeared before the High Courts of Madras, Bombay and Karnataka, tax tribunals, arbitral proceedings and various administrative authorities. He has represented corporates and high net worth individuals before various forums during his litigation practice and has advised several clients on their tax and corporate issues during his advisory practice. He has advised corporate clients and individuals on tax structuring/ advisory, tax treaties applicability and transfer pricing issues. He has also advised clients on mergers and acquisitions (domestic, inbound and outbound) from direct tax, indirect tax and corporate laws perspective. He is also well versed in the estate planning practice for individuals especially in the case of India-US cross border situations.
Being an LL.M. from a premier tax law school in the US, Karthik has deep insight and understanding of the US international tax laws applicable to corporates and non-corporates and has advised several corporations and individuals on US international tax issues.
Karthik is also a Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He is frequently invited to address at the ICSI, ICAI, IFA, legal teams of companies on tax and corporate issues. He has also authored several articles on tax laws and have been published by various publishers like Tax Analysts, Tax Notes International, etc.
Karthik is also a guest faculty at National Law School of India University, Bangalore teaching income tax, indirect taxes and international tax to the LL.B. and LL.M. students. He is also frequently invited by top tier law schools in India to conduct brief international tax seminar course to their LL.B. and LL.M. students.
