Overview:

In 1986, Jones Day established its Hong Kong Office to offer on-the-ground support in Asia for the Firm’s international client base. In 1996, the office became the first branch office of a U.S. law firm to practice Hong Kong law. Today, our team of approximately 40 transactional and litigation lawyers offers one of the most comprehensive arrays of services among U.S. law firms in Hong Kong. Our lawyers received their legal training in a variety of jurisdictions in addition to Hong Kong, including the United States, United Kingdom, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore and, in addition to English, collectively speak Mandarin and various local dialects such as Cantonese, Shanghainese, and Taiwanese, as well as French, German, Spanish, Korean, Hindi, and Kannada.

Working with the Firm’s five other Asian offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, and Tokyo, the Hong Kong Office provides a comprehensive range of legal services to serve the Firm’s international and local clients. The office has extensive capabilities in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, dispute resolution, intellectual property, real estate, and energy and routinely handles cross-border transactions involving Hong Kong, U.S., and English law. Jones Day’s One Firm Worldwide approach affords our clients seamless access to the Firm’s substantial legal resources in our fully-integrated network of more than 2,400 lawyers worldwide.

The Hong Kong Office has one of the largest and most active cross-border practices in the region and most of our practices have received high rankings in the Chambers Asia and Asia Pacific Legal 500 guides in recent years. Our lawyers and staff also have contributed generously of their time and talents to help improve the quality of life in the local community. For example, the office provides employment law advice for the Hong Kong Student Aid Society, which offers foster care, residential facilities, and educational support to children and young people, and helped establish Hong Kong’s first Mars exploration team and assisted the team in registering a U.S. patent and seeking financial support from the European Space Agency.
