The firm was founded on the notion that legal services need not be expensive. Our growth has come by understanding client problems – and solving them with a strategic combination of legal and practical skills. With dramatic advances in technology and the expansion of international business into new markets, we are well-positioned to provide legal services that meet the changing needs of our clients.
Kane & Company believes that efficiency and effective communication are critical to effective representation. Although our offices are located in western Michigan, we are digitally connected to the United States Patent and Trademark Office and our associates around the world, making it easy to respond quickly to matters critically impacting your business. Our west Michigan location makes it possible for us to offer quality services for less than comparable firms in larger metropolitan areas.
Kane & Company’s global intellectual property practice includes a highly qualified team of IP attorneys who work in conjunction with attorneys from other practice areas to deliver a combination of services, both traditional and innovative. Because Kane & Company represents a wide range of clients worldwide—from multinational corporations to small businesses, research foundations, and individual inventors — we use an attorney-client team approach to IP representation, which works in concert with the client’s business. The practice is committed to fulfilling client needs by assisting clients in understanding and maximizing the value of their IP assets and in minimizing risk through ongoing education of clients.
Kane & Co., PLC (November 12, 2015) – On October 20, 2015, the intellectual property attorneys and lawyers of Kane & Co., PLC opened a second office in Santa Fe, New Mexico to offer services to the southwestern part of the United States. We now offer legal services on patent, trademark, copyright and franchise matters from both locations to better serve our clients.
Santa Fe, founded in 1610, is the oldest capital city in the continental United States. Our new office is conveniently located between Los Alamos National Laboratories in the city of the same name and Sandia National Laboratories located near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The expansion offers greater convenience to our clients located in the southwestern United States and opportunities to serve new industries.
Kane & Co., PLC has been providing legal advice and services to clients on intellectual property law matters since 2005. We are proud to now offer our services in New Mexico and the surrounding states of Colorado, Texas and Arizona. Intellectual property law generally includes patents, trademarks, copyrights, and unfair competition and is often encountered in the arts, franchise law, contracts, licensing, and other business agreements and practices.
Counseling
We represent a wide range of clients before the state and federal courts as well as various governmental agencies, on intellectual property matters. In general, intellectual property (IP) is an umbrella term for various legal entitlements which attach to certain types of information, ideas, or other intangibles in their expressed form. More specifically the term intellectual property reflects the idea that the subject matter is the product of the mind or the intellect, and that IP rights may be protected at law in the same way as any other form of property.
A substantial amount of our experience is representing clients on intellectual property matters before the U.S. federal and state courts, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States Copyright Office, the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of United States Customs and Border Protection, and the Library of Congress.
In addition to acting as counsel on behalf of clients before the different governmental agencies and courts set out above, we also act on behalf of clients in negotiations in the private sector such as patent and trademark licensing, patent and trademark enforcement and defense, and intellectual property acquisition.
One competitive advantage Kane & Co., PLC can offer is their network of highly qualified scientists, engineers, and other attorneys. Through this network we can conduct searches that provide the best possible indication of whether intellectual property rights may be available and any obstacles that may be encountered.
