Overview:

Dechert lawyers in Beijing help global corporations, financial institutions and private investors to meet their legal and regulatory needs when doing business in China.

Our team includes some of the most eminent legal figures in the Chinese market, who facilitate clients’ expansion by maintaining a network of relationships with key members of the Chinese central regulatory authorities. At Dechert, we give our associates the tools, experiences and opportunities to develop into effective lawyers and leaders. As part of Dechert’s Talent Team, the Associate Development Department fosters a supportive, high performance culture by offering numerous outlets through which associates can enrich their careers. These opportunities range from firmwide trainings across all of our offices to individual shadowing opportunities.

Critical Skills Institute

The Critical Skills Institute, Dechert’s core competency program, is designed to help associates think strategically about their professional goals and to identify actual steps they can take to reach those goals. The Critical Skills Framework is a matrix of 16 performance factors used in conjunction with practice specific benchmarks to help associates and the firm track the progress of each associate’s career. Some consider these “soft” skills, but we here at Dechert know they are critical.

The Critical Skills Institute’s comprehensive training and development curriculum focuses on four primary skills:

Leadership
Communication
Client Relations
Management

Through training methods such as interactive simulated experiences, presentations by partners and personal coaching workshops, the Institute helps participants develop their skills and maximize their potential.

We also offer lectures by prominent industry experts, such as Harvard Business School Professor, Ashish Nanda; communications coach, Lane Bowes; University of Virginia Law School Professor, Molly Bishop Shadel; and international law firm consultant, Terri Mottershead, on significant career development topics. Recent courses include:
