As far as your property is concerned, North Carolina is
an "equitable distribution" state. The property will be
divided in an equitable or fair (not necessarily equal)
way. If the parties cannot reach a settlement, the
court will decide how to divide the property. They will
do this based on income, obligations arising from prior
marriages, duration of marriage, mental state of both
parties, the needs of a parent with custody, etc.
