The question

TTHRTR DKFJSDK Hello to anyone that will here my story.Earlier in May of 2012 i recieved a call from the emergency room saying I needed to get there my father was there on a breathing tube and has completely sedated so he can rest. He was rushed to the er and they found his lung had collapsed due to a severe case of empyema. Well when I arrived at the hospital he ahd looked terrible and of course as any other child with a parent lying there you feel hopeless and powerless. The next couple of days wt antibiotic through iv he began to come around. He was aware of who the people surrounding him were but something just didnt seem right. He wasnt wanting to eat wasnt very verbal and didnt show much strength, After a wk the breathing tube came out but the feeding tube and drainage tube stayed in.a couple days after that the feeding tube was removed but still remained the drainage tube which was understandable due to the enpyema. after about @wks he was then transferred from ICU to another Icu floor, I suppose they do when not ready for a regular floor but not so severe for ICU anymore. Now during his stay in ICU while i was evaluating his body and condition it came to my attention hisleft leg was extremely large and something was wrong.I wondered how was it that no one had noticed it when it was clearly the sz of a 200lb + person and he was touching barely on 130lbs himself. I then brought it to all three of his doctors attention and the caring nurses.Everyone just starred in confusion and passed around different explanation with no hard facts. They say he was tested with and ultrasound but didn't see anything there. All they offered was leg compressors saying it may be from him not moving around but wouldn't you think both legs would be like that. Still not getting any better they offered no better conclusions to the cause, Even after i told them when applying pressure my finger prints stayed and his skin was releasing some fluid with an odor. While he was in the hospital he had three doctors a primary health, infectious, and pulmonary doctor all that i had kept asking questions about his condition. they all had the same round about answers the swelling should get better he was protected by antibiotic through iv and it will help if any infection. After each and every mri, ultrasound, xray and blood test I inquired about results and findings. All I was offered was they wbc was extremely elevated but wt treatment he should be fine. The infectious doctor did bring attention to a solid mass found on his lung but said it didnt look detremental and could b tested once he gets better from the infection from the empyema. After removing the breathing tube the pulmonary doctor basicly was a ghost as he was no longer needed I was told. My father was eventually transferred to a regular floor with the drainage tube and antibiotic and continued testing to begin rehab again I was told once he starts moving his leg should go down.I even knew there was more to his leg being swollen and not the other the smell coming from it was not right. as his stay lingered on in his regular room he still seemed to be getting worse such as not eating barely anything disoriented climbing out of the bed not remembering he had a drainage tube in. He started loosing his bowels and urinating on himself. On more than one occassion he ripped the tube out trying to go to the bathroom. they then began to retsrian him when family wasnt able to be there and also went as far as getting a sitter to be in his room. Well lets jus say my opinion was they got tired of babysitting adn ran all the test they needed so they felt and put in a request for him to be moved to an acute rehabilitation center. So with tube still in disoriented and leg still swole they transferred him to a rehab place with the words of no worries with rehab and meds he would be going home in no time. To be exact when being discharged from the hospital I was personally told an 8 week recovery period which majority would be in teh rehab hospital. No further mention of the mass discovered no concrete explanation or further testing on his leg just a transfer and a confused daughter. After being at the rehab hospital for two to three days I was pulled into a what seemed to the last quiet room I ever wanted to enter by his doctor assigned there. Before he opened his mouth my worst fears were confirmed. My father wouldnt be coming home anymore. How could he come here after being in the hospital for almost a month and having three doctors in different fields and I just find out hes in stage 4 of pancreatic cancer and it was far to late!!! how can one doctor a new doctor ,someone new to him be able to tell me he was well on his final hrs maybe a couple days at the most when my father was under the care of three doctors for almost a month. How can they just pass him along without seeing this. i was then informed a decision needed to be made ....three options at hand 1. I could take him home and have him go there on meds for comfort of his pain 2. Send him back to the hospital to recieve medication til his final hours or 3. Have him transferred to a hospice facility and spend his final hours there with him under medication so he could peacefully go. All of those days sitting by him at the hospital in the er icu and post icu with so many thoughts and questions to be told he would be fine its just going to be a long road to recovery. All that to end up not having him here with me. I cant keep thinking we could have had more time more quality time if they had ran the proper test been more observative listened to my worries but no just a transfer and a million and one questions is what they left me with.I keep getting this feeling that someone ahs to pay for slacking on the job. NO amount of money in the world can bring back my father or erase this tragedy but it will make them aware that as a docotr it is your job to do what u must until you jsut cant anymore!!! Someone tell me do you think I have a case??????? Some dont believe in things such as signs or ghost but those that do please hear me when I say my father has been visiting me since his passing telling me "baby I couldnt take care of you liek I should have when i was there with you but now I can,get an attorney and do whats right.and remeber I love you" I told myself for the longest I was crazy just let it all go hes at peace now but its eating away at me. I couldnt fight for him then and be heard but lord if I can now please let me be heard!!!!! tahnk you for taking the time to read my story.......

Very sorry to hear about the untimely loss of your father. I'm not a lawyer, but if you suspect for one second that doctors' errors caused your father's preventable death, I'd recommend to get in touch with a medical malpractice attorney in your area immediately. They'll take into consideration your father's medical and treatment history before advising you on what you should do next, what your legal options could be, and if you have grounds for a lawsuit. A lawyer may even help with an investigation to get to the bottom of what happened with your father while he was in the hospital.

Every state has their own laws defining medical malpractice. Hopefully this link can clarify the type of doctor behavior that can be considered malpractice: (removed)
