Question

Trying to get passport

Asked 16 May 2010 · 2 answers

The question

Trying to get a passport as a US citizen, but will my background stop me from getting one? My parents are not US citizens. My mother crossed the Mexican border illegally to the US and I was born with a midwife. I have a birth certificate and social security number. I had a different last name growing up in Mexico than my registered US name. Have been married for 15 years to a US citizen and have 3 children.

I think you can still get a passport because you are an American citizen. It might be tough to fill out all the paperwork, but doable. If you are having trouble figuring which steps you should take I would talk to an immigration lawyer and see if you can't work through it. (removed)
