Question

Mobile Home and Land Package can not get help

Asked 6 December 2012 · needs an answer

The question

I live in South Carolina and have a double wide mobile home and land mortgaged with Chase Mortgage. I lost my job 2 years ago and though I’m still working I’m not making what I used too. I have to struggle to make my house payments. I tried to refinance through HAMP and they said I qualified but then they declined the refi after the appraisal showed the property as a mobile home. They sent me a overnight letter yesterday offering me a 4% interest down from the current 7.38% through the Chase Rate Reduction Program so I called and they declined again because of the property type. I’ve been making all payments on time for the last 12 years. But now that I need some relief I’m treated like a low class citizen because I live in a double wide and pay my bills. Is there anything I can do - so I can feed my family? My debt to income ratio is low due to the fact I’ve always tried to not live above my means and have tried to be responsible, but it would ne nice to get the same relief that those that haven’t made responsible decisions. I feel because Ive decided to live within my means and I can technically make my house payments, but at the price of my family doing without - Im being punished because of my property type. I dont want to get something for nothing, but if someone that made bad decisions or someone that just decides to stop making their mortgage payments can walk away with a modification and a 2-3% interest I should be able to get some relief too. Im almost to the point of just walking away and saying the heck with it, but I dont want to be one of those people that doesn't pay their debts.
