I got arrested for getting my face beat in...

The question

My husband cheated on me. When I found out I smacked him. He

came at me and wrapped his arm around my neck and was

chocking me. I couldn't get out of his hold so I grabed the nearest

thing I could find, which was a child size lawn chair, and swung it

at him, hitting him on the top of the head with the metal part. He

took off into the bedroom. I wasn't done yelling. I followed him.

He was lying back on the foot of the bed and I climbed up on the

bed and was leaning on his legs. He pushed my face. I pushed his

back. He grabbed the back of my hair with both hands and ripped

as hard as he could. In my struggle we rolled off the bed. He

landed on top of me and he full out punched me in the face.

I called 9-1-1 because my eye was instantly swollen and bloody. I

felt I needed medical attention. Of course they sent the police.

After he and I both relayed the story seperately to officers, I was

arrested.

I'm facing a year in jail. The judge at my preliminary denied me a

court appointed attorney due to my part time job.

If this goes on my record I lose my job. And there fore my home.

If I go to jail I lose my job, my home, and my kids.

I have a non jury trial in 1 week. I cannot afford an attorney and

legal aid will not help since its a criminal matter.

What do I do? Should I really be concidered the aggressor here? I

used some force, but he, being bigger and stronger than me, used

more force.

I'm terrified to go to court alone.
