Who was your employer? Was it the state's Department of Social Services? In any case, you always have the right to notice of legal action against you and a right to a hearing to resist such action. Doesn't matter if the case is a criminal or civil matter, the same rights exist through the due process clause of the US Constitution. If you worked for your state's social services, they could probably reverse whatever list they had you on. At the same time, you could also counter-sue the man for libel or slander.
Please consult an attorney for actual legal advice. Best of luck.
