Likely, but I don't think the other party has a high chance of winning said case. The problem is causation; your dog caused the incident, but its not a foreseeable harm that the other man would be injured by his own dog. Usually when a dog gets loose a reasonable person expects that the dog that escaped will do the injury, not the other animal.

You could also say that the other man contributed to his injuries as he was careless while separating them. Please seek a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

A dog owner who is legally responsible for an injury to a person or property may be responsible for reimbursing the injured person for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and property damage. Because they have a legal responsibility to prevent their pets from injuring people or damaging property. If a dog hurts someone, the owner will probably have to reimburse the victim for medical expenses, time lost from work, and pain and suffering. You must seek the advice of an experienced Personal Injury attorney.

It's not your fault. For a dog to unexpectedly turn and bite out of aggression is extremely rare. The dog should be protective and alert but not suspicious and aggressive. Your dog should calm down after you tell him the situation is 'okay'.

I also agree that dog's owner is legally responsible for damage or injury the dog causes. But people should learn, teach and practice obedience lessons on their dogs. In this case, it's not your fault.. But I advised you that you should consult an experienced Dog Bite Lawyer on your behalf for a little safety.

Thanks!!!
