Question

Credit Cards and Divorce

Asked 7 July 2011 · needs an answer

The question

I got a divorce about 1 year ago and as part of it the

credit cards were split up. It turns out the one my ex-

wife was assigned has not been paid on and as a result

I have started receiving calls from the collections.

All things being in normal-English I feel that I should

be off that credit card completely. I have included

below whathhink is relevant but if more information is

needed let me know!

The credit card was taken out with me as a co-signer.

The divorce decree states "Petitioner [her] shall sole

responsibility for the following unpaid debts: [Card

name here] and her student loans. Petitioner [her] is

to indemnify and hold Respondent [him] completely

blameless for these debts."

I don't speak legalize so if it is possible to get me

removed from any further credit hit on that and get the

collectors off my back. Thanks for any help!
