The question
Hi, I took my mother to the ER with a nose bleed on going for 4 days after chemo. This nose bleed was not flowing dangerously, but needed to be stopped and Oncologist sent us to ER. The Dr found that her blood levels were very low but she definitely needed platelets. Was waiting for info and got it and left to make calls to family and use the restroom. As I returned no more than 20 min later there is a lady taking her to somewhere. I asked where are you taking her and she said to get an ultra sound. Her nurse was not there and the DR did not make me aware of this. Because my mothers Small Cell Lung Cancer had Metastasized to the Pancreas and Abdominal Lymph nodes I just thought OK this is things we are use to. When my mom came back she was a bit upset. she said she never had anything like that before. I just trusted they were making sure there were no other problems. Dr came in and said that he was sorry that the Ultra sound (TRANS- VAGINAL) was not suppose to happen and that I guess we needed to see if she was pregnant before giving her platelets. I tried to make light of it with calming her down trying to laugh at 71 pregnancy test etc. Did not help, she broke down,
She stated I do not want to come back to this hospital and I do not want to have anymore treatments and I just am tired I cant do this anymore. She was going to have more Chemo to help reduce the size of the tumors and maybe possibly prolong some of her life a bit. She has Parkinson and essential Tremor and is going through already enough. It caused trauma to her pelvic and spotting of blood and emotional trauma. she talks about it ALL THE TIME. She has stating of Dementia and this has truly put her in a real bad position. For all that she is already going through she is torn. What is a Mal Practice Case like this worth
