An employer may request that you provide a doctor's note that confirms that you're healthy and capable of doing your job, and what, if any, accommodations you need or may need in the future. By law, the employer is required to accommodate your condition by modifying your tasks and responsibilities, etc. You cannot be forced to take a leave of absence. It violated the ADA (Americans with Disabilities). You should also look into the laws specific to your state; some states offer much more comprehensive protections than the the federal policy.

If your employer does not comply, you may want to have a chat with an attorney because you could be entitled to benefits you're not aware of. I'm not a lawyer so I can't say for sure.

Good luck!
