Question

Not being paid minimum wage.

Asked 23 November 2012 · 1 answer

The question

My employer is not meeting minimum wage. I work well over 40 hours a week, we are talking 15 hour days 6 days a week. For the first three days I worked I was paid $200.00. I worked 15 hour days for those three days. When I ask about it the man I with for says he'll try to pay me more, when I start moving faster. I'm still in the early of this job, but already he is not paying close to the verbally agreed ion amount. He decided to pay me $300 for a 6 day week, again 15 hours a day. However when asked when I would start making what we agreed in he said he didn't know.

What can I do?

Well, first you're entitled to more than minimum wage if you're working over eight hours a day, because you're owed overtime as well. Assuming that your supervisor is also the owner and you've exhausted all recourse within the company or business itself, you can either file a formal complaint with the department of labor of whatever state the company is in or seek a civil lawsuit.

In sum:

1) Speak with the person or department in charge first

2) Than either file a formal complaint with the state labor department or seek a civil lawsuit or both
