Question

Internet Chat Between 2 Adults

Asked 9 October 2012 · 1 answer

The question

hi,

I am 32 yrs old guy and had a chat on skype with a 28 yrs female in the last one month.

There is nothing romantic or indecent in the chat apart from one line where I had asked her to

wear a dress and show me on webcam.

Now the husband who had seen the chat messages is saying he will file a LAW SUIT on me for chatting with his wife.

Can he file a suit on me for just chatting/talking on phone with his wife ?

I live in NJ and the female lives in FL.

There was nothing done on forcefully...it was a mutual friendship nothing much between two adults..only point is we did

chat/talk at odd hours late in the night.

And the other point is me asking her to wear a particular dress and show on webcam.

He is holding the transcripts and threatening that he will sue me with those.

He doesn't know anything abt me apart from my phone number and email id.

He says using my phone number he will get my mailing address and other info.

Is there anything I need to worried about ? Are there any precautions I need to take care to ensure nothing harm happens to

me. I really want to avoid the lawsuit and pain of going around the courts.

Please advice.

Unless there is something in the transcript I'm not aware of, I don't think there was any violation of law. Also, the husband must show some type of harm for this to be worth a judge's time. There was no money lost or property destroyed. The only harm here is emotional distress to the husband, which honestly isn't worth that much. Given this relationship was mutual, the husband should be blaming his own wife rather than you. To put it more bluntly, if a person isn't usually sued for cheating with someone's spouse, its very, very unlikely that the husband can sue you because you asked and (I assume) saw his wife wearing a dress.

I suppose the husband could try asking for something other than money, like a protection order, but given women aren't treated like property anymore, this line of action makes no sense if the relationship was mutual.
