Bankruptcy trustees do not buy and sell properties. They do have lists of short sellers, or acknowledge a willing foreclosure. Foreclosures are done through foreclosure auctions and short sales are done through listings. There is never a guarantee you will not be outbid, anyone with cash can show up to bid on a foreclosure.
