Asked 25 January 2011 · 1 answer

The question

Im 18 and i got a ticket and a court date for criminal possession of

marijuana in the 5th degree i went to my court date and plead not guilty

and got an arraignment date in a month. The judge than said i needed to

come with counsel or a parent to my arraignment can i just plead guilty at

my arraignment without an attorney or parent? I just want to plead guilty

because i do not want my parents to know or pay for an attorney. Thank

you in advance

Yes, you can change your plea. But consider the

ramifications of it first. I would talk to a lawyer,

usually they give free consultations.

As for a parent or counsel present, if you are 18, you

are a legal adult. That was probably just a suggestion by

the judge, but I would still ask for professional legal

advice on that part.
