Question

Bankruptcy after divorce?

The question

I have been seperated from my ex wife since 2005, which is also when I initally filed for divorce. We do not share children together but we did purchase a home together while we were married. I got engaged last year and 3 months prior to our wedding date I went to get a copy of my divorce papers and was then informed that my divorce had never been finalized which was not at all something I expected. My ex wife contested the divorce initally in 2005 for insurance purposes. I am still on the deed to our home and the mortgage loan, which also surprised me because about 2 years ago I met up with her to sign papers that she said was to sign off the deed of the house. I was stupid and didn't bother to read the papers and as it turns out I haven't been removed from anything. Meanwhile, I have stacked up a good bit of bad debt from medical issues I had. My divorce was finalized in Sept 2011. I want to file chapter 7 bankruptcy but I'm not sure how this is going to work since I am still on a deed and mortgage loan for a home I have not lived in since 2005. I have to get my name of this loan and the deed to this house and I want to know if I can include that in my bankruptcy. I don't care if she keeps the house, I just don't want to financially be included in any way. Can anyone please give some insight on what my options are?
